Today's offering showcases this classic and
full size Certified Pre-Owned example of a vintage tuning fork
Electronic Constellation. Its technology was so advanced at the
time that it had to be kept from the Russians...
Launched in 1960, the Accutron was
the world's first fully electric watch and at the time the most
accurate timekeeping mechanism ever devised. They are remarkable
watches with a fascinating story.
The tuning fork technology was
so accurate that NASA used it for timing for new satellites and
for timekeeping in their spacecraft. The U.S. government even
asked Bulova to delay the release of their cutting edge new watches
for fear the technology might fall into the hands of the Russians.
An Accutron watch movement sits on the moon's Sea of Tranquility
today, in an instrument placed there in 1969 by Apollo 11 astronauts.
These watches use a battery
driven tuning fork whose vibrations are converted by a special
index mechanism into an almost smoothless rotary motion of the
hands. At the time tuning fork watches were the most accurate
timekeeping mechanisms ever devised.
While Bulova patented the tuning
fork based movement made by ESA often associated with its Accutron
brand, they also licensed it for a brief period of time to a few
other companies like Omega.
While several different Omega models
utilized this movement, this example was part of the company's
flagship Constellation line. The Constellation
represents style, luxury, attention to detail, robust function,
and most of all, superior precision. Elegant and stately, it is
suitable for both casual and professional dress.

done restoration. The photos couldn't begin to do it justice!
The condition of the watch itself presents as 9.7 or 9.8 out of
10. Its original bracelet has fairly mild stretch - its finish
presents as mint.
Its case
presents as gorgeous mint on the wrist with sharp lug chamfers.
On the wrist the case presents like new. Its untouched dial and
hands are mint as well. Its original dial has been meticulously
custom refinished in a Tiffany robin's egg blue color - the printing
could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye.
A Master
Watchmaker has installed a new battery and performed any needed
servicing.

finishing touch, it has been meticulously detailed making it ready
for immediate enjoyment.

resistance of vintage watches can no longer be guaranteed
and is not covered under the watch's warranty. We don't
recommend getting a vintage watch wet - and really don't
recommend showering or diving with it - even one that
was originally designed to be waterproof.

- All items are packaged very carefully and mailed in large
reinforced shipping boxes appropriate for high value items

Watches are ultra-precision instruments, and the timekeeping
of most is governed by a small spring that is only about
1/8 the thickness of a human hair.
The vast majority of our watches arrive safely and problem
free. However at times vintage watches
and their hairsprings can be sensitive to rough courier
handling or just having a difficult trip to you.
But even on a bad day there's still good news... We offer
a full one-year warranty on virtually every watch we sell
(unless occasionally specifically stated otherwise), so
if anything happens to it in transit or goes wrong anytime
in the first year, we will gladly repair it for you at
no charge. Yes, even the older vintage watches. So sit
back, relax, and dream about the first place where you're
going to wear your new watch!
- Our official
warranty in many ways mirrors those of a number of the
watch manufacturers and covers the proper timekeeping
of the movement. It does not cover things like abuse,
being dropped, crystals, bracelets, crowns, case parts
etc. or water resistance. While we are the sole determinants
of what qualifies for warranty work.... even if you have
a problem that you don't think will qualify for coverage,
tell us about it anyway. We are here to serve and just
might be able to help you.
- Winning bidders must fully pay within 48 hours of the end
of the auction. After 48 hours the watch will be relisted.
- To be fair to all bidders, we make it our practice not
