Albert Edward Doodson’s MM was announced in the
London Gazette dated 11 February 1919 while serving with Q Special Coy. The
Special Companies were the Gas Company units.
With 5 copied pages of service record and a
casualty roll. He was living at Cheetham Hill, Manchester when he enlisted
21/9/15 aged 19. His trade on enlistment was a chemist, which on enlistment to
Gas Coy meant he was immediately promoted Cpl. Joined Depot (Special) Coys
France 7/10/15. In 1916 he was serving with No 4 Bn Special Bde, his records
showing by January 1917 he was serving with “Q” Special Coy with whom he
appears to have spent the rest of the war. On 19/9/17 he was admitted to 18
General Hospital with “Trench Fever”.
