Hello, here is a Victorian in age, Writing slope with a mahogany veneer .For anyone who has not seen one of these before, the writing slope was the Victorian traveller`s office that you filled with envelopes, writing paper, ink pens , stamps, envelope seal and the melting wax and anything else you may need to take with you when you travelled,

everything kept all together in one place that you could lock and keep secure.

 This writing slope came to me in a state that required some repairs. There was a crack running horizontally across the lid. Now filled with wood. The front key shield escutcheon was missing, so I made one to fit. There were no keys,

 I reprofiled a couple of Victorian keys that were the right size for the lock. One of the reprofiled keys had a broken bow (Handle) so I have made a wooden handle for it.

The writing slope panels storage compartment and the main base compartment  -the original writing surface had frayed to a point the storage compartment panel was loose. The original cloth acts as a hinge for the panels, so once the cloth through a century plus of wear and tear it frays. I have reinforced the central area on both front and underside of both panels with leather hinges. 

I have applied veneer slices where I could, but there are some areas filled and bees waxed over this blends the missing veneer . I have deliberately kept some areas distressed, as I believe an antique writing slope that was made to be used would have some signs of use and have some knocks here and there. 

The writing slope would have originally had two square squat glass ink well pots.I have made a glass and wood top ink well pot with a brass and cork stopper. 

In the pen holder you have a tilting top cover so you can rest your ink pen on the cover when in use or store it under the cover . I have supplied a vintage wooden ink nib pen as part of the slope. 

Under the writing panel there is another storage compartment that has a secret panel that you lift out and that reveals a hidden drawer.
