I'm selling a Charvel Jackson 2B Bass guitar, in red.  I am not a musician, the proceeds from sale of the instrument will entirely go to charity, so I'm just describing what I have found out and can see for myself.

By comparing the serial number to other correspondence about these online I think it was made in the mid to late 80s, possibly 1986, as part of a collaboration between a US company Jackson who supplied most of the hardware, but it was made in Japan, I believe this is the link to Charvel, hence the double name  Shortly after the time this one was made Jackson was taken over by Fender which says something about the standard of Jackson instruments themselves.

According to sources online it is considered something of a classic instrument and now very desirable.  Its rare to find a bass with the angled "hockey stick" or "pointy" style neck.  I understand that is has both jazz and precision pick ups and that one of the three knobs switches between these or you can use a blend of both.

Condition wise, this has got to be at the top end of the range for an almost 40 year old instrument.  It was a bit dirty when I first saw it, with quite a bit of dust in the bridge etc.  It will need some more cleaning and polishing and general TLC to get it back to its absolute best.  I've included pictures of the headstock front and back (#s 4 and 5) to show it has no dings there, which is rare, and in terms of the body there is just one small chip on the back/side edge of the smaller front points (sorry not sure of the technical term for these, see pic 8).  There are one or two tiny scratches elsewhere which may or not polish out (I will take and post photos of these shortly) . There is a tiny and very shallow dent in the maple of the neck, about 2/3 up, level with the middle of the pink sticker in the 9th picture.  The varnish has cracked but none has come off, if it was a piece of furniture I would steam out the dent and retouch the varnish but I'm not an expert on instrument care and don't want to mess with it.  The white paint highlighting the Jackson brand name on the pickups is still mostly complete, I would guess that where it has worn a bit, it could easily be retouched if desired.

I showed it to the owner of a musical instrument shop near me and he said it was nice and straight, I've tried to show this in a couple of pictures (10 and 11) but not sure how useful these are.  It comes with a reasonable quality but dusty soft case and given the condition it looks like it has spent most of its life in there.

It is difficult to get an accurate UK value for the instrument as these are so rare in the UK.  There is on old YouTube video where a guy from a UK studio/shop reckons a red 2B in good condition is worth "999", and there's have been 3Bs for sale on eBay for up to £750 but that is the slightly higher spec model than the 2B for sale here.  Looking internationally on Reverb and for eBay international sales, these sell for around £500 to £600 in US and Australia depending on condition.  The prices in Japan are slightly lower, but maybe there are more of them surviving there than in the rest of the World as that is where they were originally made? Please note I have not had the opportunity (nor do I have the talent) to plug it in a see how it sounds and I've accounted for this in the price.  Please get in touch if you want to discuss the price ask questions or make an offer but I won't be giving it away for silly money, please see first paragraph as to why.

I would not know how to begin packaging up this item and it is pretty heavy so could be very expensive to ship, so I am listing it as  collection in person at this stage.  We can discuss shipping if a buyer is interested but this would be entirely at the buyers cost and risk.

I am based in Cardiff but can also deliver to the Manchester area and London as I travel there now and then to visit family, please be aware that if we go this route it might take several weeks!
