AT Auction is an original circa 1904 one gallon stoneware whiskey jug from the saloon of Jere M. Blowe of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Jere and his wife Lula, operated a saloon in the Mississippi river town of Vicksburg at the turn of the previous century, and he also served as an alderman in town at a time when African Americans were not typically in that line of society. I am willing to let it go to a good steward of African American Mississippi history, and do appreciate your bids. As far as condition goes, has a few shallow lip chips, no cracks or any repairs has original intact handle.

For those of you who specifically collect Mississippi/Louisiana jugs, this particular jug has four different fonts in its stenciled lettering, making it one of the most ornate jugs in the repertoire of Mississippi jugs. It is interesting that an African American saloon keeper at the turn of the last century has one of the coolest looking jugs of any competition. Just sayin'. Also, you will find a photo of Jere M. Blowe with a brief profile with a simple Google search.

Truly a museum piece with great Black Americana history.

One just sold for $1225!!!

Thank you for your bids.
