[The Grasses of Learning, A Text for Children]
Meiji 5=1872

This is the fourth volume of Fukuzawa Yukichi's textbook for children's education.  Fukuzawa, an educator who stressed English language study and Western learning as the way for Japan to take a place in the world, created Keio University.  This volume is all Japanese text and without illustrations, though the calligraphy and decorative covers are quite handsome.  A piece of Meiji history.
