A $1 bill gives scale for this item.  This jar or pot is puzzling. In some ways it's like eBay item #15217559188 (same height, same lid  pattern) but the figures are slightly different and there is no white ring around the top rim of the jar. and the finial is different.  .  Nowhere is it marked Wedgwood and yet the raised white figures (called Sacrifice pattern I believe) and the sage green coloring are both classic Wedgwood (although some of the photos show as too green!).   Was this some kind of pottery project sanctioned by Wedgwood that Mr. Cookson participated in? Was it a practice piece to show his ability to apply the slip correctly? Was he simply identifying the item as his or was he claiming credit for his participation in creating this look-alike? The inside of the pot/jar is indented (final photo) at the same spots where the figures appear on the outside as well as poorly applied glaze drippings.  The cover fits loosely.  An unusual piece that should appeal to any Wedgwood collector.  Priority shipping  varies from $18 west of the Mississippi and in the deep South to $11.70 in southern New England.
