The Minsk Watch Factory was one of the foremost watch factories in the Soviet Union. In the mid-1970s, watch production reached more than 5 million watches per year, and production quality was considered very high-grade and reliable. Luch watches were produced from the beginning to end completely “in house", without requiring any third-party suppliers. This plant was responsible for many impressive feats of engineering, including the first modular mechanical design, single-hand watches, watches with gilded movements, the thinnest caliber ever (cal 2200), and many other stunning designs.

Luch watches represent the highest quality standard for Soviet production, which is still respected by many collectors of the World. The slim caliber 2209 is a gilded mechanism that is accurate, reliable, easily-maintained, and not prone to corrosion. Due to its svelte design, watches equipped with 2209 movement are very thin and elegant. See for yourself - these watches are hardly thicker than the strap! Despite their simple exterior appearance, Luch watches were assembled by hand. The fit, finish, and care for details meant a price that was not low. Luch watches could only be afforded by rich Soviet citizens, the Soviet party elite, scientists, superiors, and well-deserved workers. A typical Soviet citizen could not afford this commodity, and therefore it's still a rarity to this day.
