Overview: A very compact 50mm version of Meyer-Optik's now iconic triplet. Produced from 1952 up until 1960, the serial number suggests this lens dates from 1957, towards the end of production. Of a Cooke Triplet optical design, these lenses produce alluring images with an interesting vintage rendering and a striking bubbly bokeh in backlit situations as you will see from the samples below.

Overall Condition: Very good for its age with only slight signs of use to the aluminium body. The filter ring has had a knock at some point but has been straightened out and filters still screw on. Supplied with generic caps.

Optical Condition: Excellent with only a couple of faint coating marks, which are not evident in the images produced. I can also see a little internal dust.

Mechanical Operation: Focusing is very smooth and consistent and the aperture setting is free with well-defined click stops for each stop.

Real World Use: When used wide open this lens is still quite sharp in the centre and of course produces, the classic bubbles from highlights in the out of focus areas, in fact, I have rarely used a lens with so much character! Stopped down it is sharp across the frame but less exciting in the images produced, wide open is where all the fun is! Adaptable to modern mirror-less cameras and DSLRs, Altix adaptors are available on eBay. All in all, a rewarding lens to shoot with producing images with that classic vintage feel that has made Trioplans so sought after.
