This is one of 200 missives flown in rocket 87. The rocket named Jerong R87 was fired on the morning of 1 October 1935 by Mr RP Rai, the Postmaster of Gangtok. The rocket was fired from the Sir Tashi Namgyal field to the compoiund of the British Residency. After the flight the covers were taken to the Post Office and the 9 pies stamp was cancelled GANGTOK 1 October 1935. The cover is signed on the front by Stephen Smith and RP Rai.On the reverse Smith signed again to confirm the contents of the rocket at 200 missives.
