This incredible antique cameo features a beautifully carved female- possibly the Roman goddess Ceres (the Greek equivalent being Demeter), as she’s depicted with what looks to be a scythe (for harvesting crops) on her left shoulder.

The detailed filigree frame is 9 carat gold, and is marked ‘D&Co’, and ‘9CT’ has been struck twice.

The hinge, pin & clasp may have been replaced at some point as there’s evidence of soldering in these areas, which isn’t really visible when the brooch is worn.
