An extremely RARE British Crimea medal to "2638 SERGt. JAMES HUNTER  42nd Rl. HIGHLrs" (later Black Watch) with full supporting records and paperwork.

3 Battle Clasps/bars - including the extremely rare "Balaklava" - this WAS NOT a 42nd battle honour and they only sent a small number of men to this battle. So much so that the Curator of the Black Watch museum in Perth asked if I would donate it to them.

I'm selling the last few pieces of a long-time military collection - I have kept the best til last - please see my other listings for rare and exceptional medals.

Poor James Hunter "drowned" on his way home after fighting for years in the Crimea, the Turkish campaign and then in the Indian mutiny (unfortunately I don't have his Turkish or Indian Mutiny medals - they possibly went overboard with him - maybe he'd already sent the Crimea medal home?)
There is no other info on how he died - was he pushed, was he drunk and fell overboard (the ship got home and did not sink).

Medal is in very good crisp condition, the "SEBASTOPOL" clasp has become detached but is complete and just needs a little silver rivet to put it back. The ribbon is very faded, a bit dirty but whole.

Will be sent FREE by fully TRACKED and insured delivery. Overseas (outwith the UK) by eBay's global shipping only - please note any extra import duties they show for your country which are the buyers responsibility.
