This is an incredibly rare 1983 TYPE 1 Original Photo of Marvin Gaye. In this close-up portrait you see Gaye right before his tragic death. This was taken in Los Angeles at his father's apartment and was his last major photoshoot which would appear in a People Magazine Story. Preston accounts that Marvin had thought there was half of a joint somewhere in his couch and insisted tearing the couch apart to find it before the shoot. The "Prince Of Soul" helped shaped the sound of Motown in the 1960's. Coming off of the success from his "Midnight Love" album released months before in 1982. This would earn him his first two Grammy Awards with the hit single, "Sexual Healing". It's sad that he was shot and killed by his father in a heated argument right there at the same location a few months later. This photo was taken by Legendary Hollywood Photographer Neal Preston who has always been on of my favorites.
