Wow, an original, hand-written page from the historical manuscript of Dr. Frank Blackmarr, as it relates to his firsthand observations following the Titanic disaster.

This single artifact page was purchased at Christie's East, during a maritime auction held February 17, 1999. Christie's documents are included with the manuscript page, as shown.

Dr. Frank Blackmarr worked as a physician in Chicago and was a passenger onboard the (rescue ship) Carpathia when it received the distress signal from the Titanic. During the voyage, Blackmarr had struck up a friendship with Harold Cottam, the Marconi operator and he reported that it was Cottam that alerted him to the fact of the collision. Blackmarr clearly realizing the significance of the situation recorded his observations of the ensuing rescue. This auction is for one of those observation manuscript pages.

Item was formerly owned by a longtime member of The Titanic Historical Society.
