Up for sale is a book, "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Published in 1879 by Houghton, Osgood and Company, Boston. Black and white illustrations throughout the book, illustrator is not identified. Gilt lettering and design and gilt page edges.

In Uncle Tom's Cabin, Harriet Beecher Stowe shared ideas about the injustices of slavery, pushing back against dominant cultural beliefs about the physical and emotional capacities of black people. Stowe became a leading voice in the anti-slavery movement, and yet, her ideas about race were complicated. Uncle Tom's Cabin tells the story of Uncle Tom, an enslaved person, depicted as saintly and dignified, noble and steadfast in his beliefs. While being transported by boat to auction in New Orleans, Tom saves the life of Little Eva, an angelic and forgiving young girl, whose grateful father then purchases Tom. 

The hardcover has edge and corner wear with some marks and scratches. Cloth at the top and the bottom of the spine is frayed. Name and address written on a blank from endpaper, small piece of tape over a small tear in the margin of one pages, some marks throughout the book, pages are a little tan, 529 pages long and the binding is loose.
