Whoa ! ... Dead Fans !! Alright !!! Now it's not just any Ol' Band that has an ' Official ' Backstage Pass that looks like This-Beauty ! ... as this is-indeed The Grateful Dead !!! that we are talking about here - and this one ? Well, it's a Total Classic ... The " Ms. Skeleton Hitchhiker Pass " ... with her Doggie ! You betcha ... This is the Vintage Original ( Genuine / Authentic ) Grateful Dead Backstage Pass ( sticker-patch / satin ) " Truck " Puzzle Piece Pass ! for the nothing-short of Legendary !!! May 26, 1993 ( 5/26/93 ) Show at the Cal Expo Amphitheatre ! in Sacramento, California ( CA ) !!! Quite the Bright - Pretty & Hot ! California Sunshine Day this was ... and, as you may likely already know - a Smoldering-Hot ! Day of Live-Dead too !!! I mean all I can say about this one is " Wow !?! " - a Reonegro '92 design that features an Extremely-Colorful ! " Ms. Skeleton Hitchhiker !! " with the " Thumb-Up ! " for a Ride !! - I'm assuming ... to the ' Next ' Dead Show !!! She is indeed sporting some " Red " High-Heels - and Bobby Weir mid/late '80's type short-short cutoffs ! Hah !! And below on the bottom right corner of this Pass - I am only guessing here ... but I'm thinking here four-legged friend may be called " Spike ? ". Sure looks that way - and he is smiling with teeth-up grinning so I'm assuming that he too is getting ready to ride to Cal Expo ! park next to the Waterslide !! ... and hang out in the lot with all of the other quite-lucky G.D. Tour Pooches ! And ... for Folks who are indeed in the ' know ' on this Show ? Well, as far as the Vince-Era goes ? ... many felt that this was indeed " The ! " run ... and thankfully now days - you can even easily check-out this evidence for yourself on the Grateful Dead Road Trips Volume 2 Number 4 pro-release !!! I mean go right ahead and catch the Band red-handed yourself !! Very-Tasty G.D. ! indeed. So ... well, I do warn you that I run the risk of getting a little emotional over this Hot Show ! ... which was the ' middle-night ' of a 3-night Cal Expo Rex Foundation Benefit stand. And, all I can say is I hope that you were able to catch a Show ( or all Shows ! ) on this Absolutely-Historic ! '93 Cal Expo run. I was so fortunate to not only warm up at the Shoreline run prior - but also catch all-three of these Incredible Nights ! of " Historic " Grateful Dead !! Two thoughts on this - 1st thought : many critical fans are less-fond of 90's ( post-Brent ) Dead and obviously there are some good reasons for feeling that way - especially from the " consistency " standpoint - and even at times the apparent lack of energy & the achievement of a grippy musical tone. And then, for the 2nd thought & more important thought ... during this May 1993 Cal Expo Show run there was a very-special brew stirred up for these California Rex Foundation performances - as follows >>> A song-by-song Jerry Garcia Guitar-Clinic ! for really 3-straight nights ! + When Phil's On The Band's On ! + When Things Get Weir'd ! = what many Deadhead's consider the Band's last Great ! - and Triumphant Stand !! Personally, I don't feel quite that way ( ( i.e. Autzen '93/'94 - Oakland Feb.'94 ( Chinese New Year " of the Dog ! " run ) - and I'm sure a few ' Big ' others ) - however, if you were there for this Glorious ! G.D. run at Expo !?! - I can see just exactly why you might, and yes - I completely understand. An Absolutely ! ' Perfect ' Atmosphere : California Sunshine ! - a Rex Benefit occasion ! - the Band clearly feeling the great vibes throughout ... all in probably the last small ( nd definitely most-intimate ) Outdoor Venue the Grateful Dead were still able to play due to crowd sizes. You've gotta love old Cal Expo - just gotta. But, here's the scoop ... and who will ever-know just exactly why this all happened ( except for each of the Boys ! naturally ... ) : Jerry Garcia was simply ready to Go ! All-Throughout this Entire ! run - Big Time !!! He comes out of gates - guns ( Rosebud ! ) blazing & Phil immediately follows suit as lead ( Bass ) Guitarist - then Bob Weir at his best ( looking like he'd been anxiously waiting for this ! ). Garcia's fretboard / picking attack & tone is aggressive - vicious & pristine all throughout the power-moments in this run ... and the ballads are heartfelt - sweet & played with Excellence ! I mean 5/25 was Hot - but if 5/25 equaled just Hot ... well then, I suppose the better word to use for both this Show 5/26 - and also the final-night on 5/27 would be - say ... Smoldering-Hot !?!!! Wow ... Just even ' typing ' about this one takes me back ... and, as far as 5/26 - the Rockin' Samson Show Opener ?!! - backed with Here Comes Sunshine ?! ... including a Deal ! closer that is one of those - ahhh, you know - like ... " Look out Jerry-Freaks because here comes the Boss Turbo-Overdrive that you Live-for !!! ". And, as for Set II - many feel that this was indeed one of the Last Purely-Glorious !! & " Huge !!! " G.D. 2nd Sets ... the set list does some of the talking indeed, but - as often the case ... you have got to hear this Set to feel the Power ! of this Magnificent !! '93 Grateful Dead in Action - Whoa !!! >>> Box ! - Victim > Crazy Fingers > Playin' > Drums > Space > Corinna > Playin' > China Doll > Around & Around ... with a Liberty Encore ! to Ice This-Cake !! Some do speak of this 5/26 Show as being the true last-great " Hurrah " for the Grateful Dead - and me, myself ... well, I feel the entire 5/27 Show was also one of the best Shows that I ever saw. Right up there on the same level as some of the Scorching-Hot Nights with Brent in the Late 80's / Early 90's. And ... Geez, I can just never ! stop laughing at this Pass - a Reonegro Art Masterpiece !!! I mean how could you ever collect Grateful Dead ' Classic ' Goodies - and not have This-One ! in your own personal Vault !! - and plus ... it's for Cal Expo '93 !!! Some Way-Good Grateful Dead - to say the very-very least ... Gotta-Love-It !! Shew ... I'm so-glad I caught this run. So for me, this Pass not only makes me Laugh ! ... but, it also makes me " Smile !!! " -- Enjoy !!!!!
