' in ' Texas !!! ".  Ha !  Works for me, and my goodness doesn't it !  This is the Vintage Original ( Genuine / Authentic ) Grateful Dead Backstage Pass for the July 2, 1981 ( 7/2/1981 ) Summer Tour Show at The Summit - in Houston, Texas ( TX ) !!!  And, it's kind of like this ... as the Grateful Dead didn't play Texas all that much ( unfortunately ) - but, when they did ... they sure ' made ' it count !!  Only close to 30 G.D. Shows in, in the 30-Year Touring Life of the Grateful Dead - 28 times, to be exact ... between 1968 and 1988.  So ... what I've found, is that so-many Texas Shows are Extraordinarily Hot ! -- and, I learned over the years that this litmus test almost works like clockwork !  Just like a Swiss Watch, right ?  And, if you have any-doubts ... just throw in a ' Texas ' tape - any tape, and you tell me ?!  Believe it ... that you'll run into some expected ( known ), and even some unexpected G.D. ' Moments of Magic ! ".  And, naturally ... with no G.D. in Texas on the front end ( '65 to '68 ), and none on the back-end ( basically, the ' Post-Brent ' '90's ) - things do statistically work in the favor of Texas, when it comes to Live Grateful Dead !  11/15/71 - 10/12/77 - 7/4/81 - 9/13/83 - 8/31/85 - 10/21/88 - 10/15/77 - 11/14/71 - 11/18 & 19/72 - 10/14/77 - 8/30/85 - 7/2/81 - 10/20/88 ... and this-list goes on & on !  A real-high hit to miss ratio in the Big State !  So ... offered here is a very-nice " Texas " flavored G.D. piece of sheer Grateful Dead and Rock & Roll History !!  The ' Official ' Backstage Pass ! from the 7/2/81 Show at the Summit in Houston !! ( even with Larkins / Barsotti " Dead Set ! " Art !! ).  And, what's really-cool about this 1981 Summer Tour Shows is that 7/2/81 at " The Summit " was-indeed the " Tour-Opener " for Entire ! Grateful Dead 1981 Summer Tour !!  The Band hadn't played a single-note ' Live ' since a mid-May '81 Show at the Warfield in Cali ( on 5/22/81 ) ... so, ' Energy-Wise ' - they were completely ! chompin' at the bit ... to deliver some Live G.D. Action ! - and Play some Good Ol' G.D. Rock & Roll !! - in Texas !!!  And, the end result of that notion is simply coated ! all over the recorded tape of this 7/2/81 Show !  C.C. Rider ! -- Sailor > Saint ! -- Scarlet > Fire !! -- Estimated > Eyes ! -- Good Lovin' ! -- & U.S. Blues !!!  Since, of-course... the 7/4/81 Manor Downs Show 2-nights later was on a Saturday Night !  So yeah ... Austin didn't even get the U.S. Blues ... as instead they got " One More ... Fourth-Of-July !!! ".  Wowie-though .... I mean What ! a Serious !! G.D. Throwdown ! Show here at The Summit !  The Grateful Dead - Smokin'-Hot ! right out of the starting-gate on this '81 Summer Tour, fresh, rested, feisty ! ... and Ready ! to deliver.  And, in this case - it was well-done Texas style !!! -- Enjoy !!!!!
