In 1901 Pierre Viala and Victor Vermorel started the task of collecting knowledge of all the grape varieties used for viticulture by man. It took the two and about 70 other colleagues almost ten years until they completed the work in 1910.

The work named “Traité Général de Viticulture – Ampelographie” was published by Masson et Cie, Paris and contained 7 volumes.

With more than 3000 pages they had collected 24000 grape varieties, showing the most

important of them on 500 chromolithographed plates.

Artists and Engravers: The authors of this work are Pierre Viala (1859-1936) and Victor Vermoral (1848-1927). The artists associated with the lithographs are A. Kreijder and J. Troncy. Alexis Kreijder (or Kreyder, 1839-1912) was a French painter, who is noted for his works involving flowers and fruit. He is a student of Eugene Lavilla in Strasbourg. Jules Troncy (1855-1915) was a French painter.

Condition: Very good. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Medium: Original chromolithograph on a vellin type paper.

This rosy grape variety originates from Ukraine. Synonyms are Al Borla, Albourla, Albourlah, Albourlah Kirmisi Isium, Albourlah Rosa, Albourlah Rosa de Crimée, Albourlah Rosso Grosso, Alburla, Coral Red Alburla, Istambul's Scarlet, Kirmirsi Mish Jsyum, Coral Red Muscat, Muscat Rouge Corail, Raisin Rouge Aromatique and Stambulskii Alyi. The ancestry (parentage) of the variety or whether there is a relationship to Muscat Blanc is unknown. The vine is used as a wine-press and table grape.
