SONNY & CHER’S THEATER IN THE ROUND Playset MEGO 1977

Offered here is a 1977 playset from Mego: SONNY AND CHER’S THEATER IN THE ROUND. This was the largest Mego collectible in size. Plastic pieces assemble into a round stage with three revolving rooms.
BACKDROPS
Four two-part cardboard backdrops are included: two are
performance stages, one with an audience and the other with the dramatic Sonny
& Cher light-scaping. The third backdrop resembles the stars’ private
dressing room and a fourth is Sonny’s Italian restaurant. Once assembled on the
round plastic base, the backdrops can be rotated. Only three can be displayed at any one time.
ORIGINAL ACCESSORIES
The playset accessories included a piano and bench, handheld
microphone with stand, television production camera with a peek-through lens, a
three-legged stool, two spotlights, a vanity table with bench, backdrops for
three unique theatre scenes, 24 stickers, and two double-sided inserts.
MISSING OR DAMAGED PARTS
We are apparently missing the 3-legged stool, the stickers, and
the hand-held microphone, though the stand is there. It looks like all the backdrops are here. The
two blue cardboards are sidings that obscure the sides of the theater as
described in the second page of the instructions. They are not installed in the photos here. The vanity bench is stained as shown.
I did not fully assemble the unit for photography as the old
plastic can become brittle and I did not want to break anything. As it is, one of the upper trio of arms has a
broken tab (see photos) and the spotlights are supposed to have two ears but
each has only one attached and the second is broken off, but included. (They can suspend with only one but would be
more secure with two)
NOT ORIGINALLY INCLUDED
The Sonny and Cher dolls were not included, but sold separately
along with a line of couture-forward outfits.
Box is damaged as shown and measures approximately 26” w x 25 ½” t x 5” d
