This new book dedicated to the genesis of the Statue of Liberty tells the story of a young American girl Sarah Coblenzer. This women, born in New York city in 1844, posed for the face of the Statue of Liberty in 1875.
Adolphe Salmon who married her was a French entrepreneur living in New York city, and the confidential friend of the sculptor Bartholdi (the artist who created the Statue).
The book gives a vivid account of the French immigration to the United States during the 2nd part of the 19th century. A very original approach conducted by Nathalie Salmon about her ancestor Adolphe and the key role he played in the development of the Statue of Liberty.
