Up for auction is an American elm (Ulmus Americana). The tree is 10 inches tall with a trunk that is 3/4 of an inch thick above the roots. It is 3 years old and potted in a plastic, 3.5 inch bonsai training pot. It will send it potted as shown.

The American elm is a deciduous species that is hardy from zones 3-9 and must be grown outdoors. Native to the eastern United States. The leaves are much larger than a Chinese elm but are said to reduce well. This species was famous for being used as a street tree that had the classic vase-shape, until it was wiped out in many areas due to Dutch elm disease. This will not happen when grown as a bonsai. I couldn't find out much bonsai information about American elm but it is definitely used for that purpose and you can see many examples on the web. They grow very fast and bud-back really well.

The tree will be sent with the pot enclosed in a plastic bag to retain moisture. Shipping is via priority-mail at a cost of $9.95.
