Vintage French M1866 yataghan sword bayonet for the M1866 Chassepot needle-fire rifle.  The bayonet shows a dark patina across the entirety of the blade which is captured well in accompanying photos.  The edge shows minor nicks but no major damage and the tip looks to be in good condition.  The handle shows wear spots but is in overall good condition.  The locking mechanism is a little stiff but functions.  The left-hand side of the guard is marked "1.A.F.L.I.2.48" and the right-hand side is marked "56609".  There are no visible markings on the spine of the blade.  No sheath is included.
