2 Fostoria Antique/Vintage Low Sherbet Champagne Coupes Glasses "Oriental" Pattern

What a charming way to serve up a scoop of sherbet or a toast of champagne! Do you love unique, beautiful old items with a bit of history? These lovely glasses have a lacy, detailed etch depicting the Aesop's fable of the Peacock and the Nightingale.

Pretty enough in their own right, they also have another interesting feature: one is manganese glass, which helps date them. Manganese is a safe, non-toxic element that was used in clear glass recipes until it was diverted for war use during WWI. It glows green under a high-power 365nm black light, but is not radioactive and is considered completely safe to use. It is not commonly seen in glass manufactured after the start of WWI, though some glassware was made containing manganese scrap glass until about the mid 1920's. Since this pattern was produced from 1918-28 and one has manganese and one doesn't, these glasses were probably right on the cusp of the the turnover in glass recipes, which means they are approximately a century old!

(If you would enjoy the full effect of the luminous glow, 365nm flashlights can be obtained inexpensively online.)

In excellent antique/vintage condition, no chips or cracks; clean, hand washed and ready to use or display.

Shipped quickly and packed with great care. Shipping is generated by the post office based on your actual location, and we do not mark it up. Default shipping is US Ground Advantage; a faster but a bit more expensive option - US Priority Mail - is also available when checking out, if you prefer.

The Fine Print from Beautiful Things for You:

Welcome! If you are here, you probably love vintage and antique glassware, too!

We are enthusiasts, but not experts. We try to share as much background on the pieces as we can; but it is only informed opinion. Please take it as so. We love learning and welcome additional information if you have it! When possible, we include screen shots from reputable companies for pattern identification, but you will always receive the item pictured in our personal photos.

We try very hard to find and point out any flaws _exactingly_ so you know what you are getting. Please read the description and look carefully at the photos - we will provide closeups of flaws, often circled, so you can evaluate them yourself. Photos are to be considered part of the description. We generally do not refer to flaws original to manufacture (i.e. bubbles, nubs, slubs) unless they are very distinctive. Vintage and antique items are by nature, old. They will have the marks and wear commensurate with their age; with antique items these indications of age are part of their beauty, and evocative of the passage of time. We will try to describe this wear carefully, but some wear is to be expected.

Decorative photo materials such as silk flowers, trays, mirrors and etc. are not included unless this is expressly mentioned in the listing. They are there to help show vintage glassware and china can be repurposed, and displayed beautifully in many ways!

Because of the practical difficulty of packing and shipping fragile glass items, we do not accept returns. Review all information carefully so you are sure of your purchase. We treat all of our customers with courtesy and respect; we welcome any contact if you feel your purchase has not lived up to your expectations. Please contact us before leaving neutral or negative feedback, and please be kind; feedback means a lot to us.

Because we love vintage items, we pack glassware with the utmost of care, with multiple layers of bubble wrap, additional padding, and Fragile stickers. Breakage has been very, very rare, less than 1% of our shipments. However, we can't prevent rough handling, machine damage, or misdirection once the shipping service has it in their hands. Packages are insured for their sold price, excluding shipping costs, and all refunds due to breakage will be divided by the number of items in the package (i.e. no full refunds for one item broken out of a set.) Absolutely let us know if this happens! We will need photos of the broken item(s), packing and packaging before any insurance claim or refund.

Note: we don't control shipping costs. Shipping is determined by weight, size, and how many zones you are away from our MI location. We do not charge handling fees. Shipping is often pre-calculated depending on weight and expected size; you will not pay more than estimated, but you may pay less. We not infrequently rebate back excess; you may see this as a partial refund message from eBay when we ship. If you have combined listings, we may switch to a shipping service better suited to large packages and will pass any savings along to you.

We have noticed an uptick in misdirected shipments, and it's distressing for everyone when a package goes awry. If you have not received your package, check the tracking information eBay sends to you. Please let us know if it has gone a week past the delivery date; each package is important to us but we may not have noticed. If it's listed "in transit" by the shipping service, it's on its way, but there's no way for us to make it go faster! But please notify us if this is happening.

Thank you for looking at our items! We hope if you are interested in unique, sustainable, heirloom quality crystal, ceramics and glassware, you have found something here you love!
