Originated in the 1400’s in Damascus (hence its name), this unique jewellery became popular also in Europe, and Toledo, Spain. Around the XV century Toledo, Spain became the European capital of damascene industry. In addition to its swords, Toledo is renowned for its damasquinados, or damascene handicrafts and costume jewelry.
In Damascene jewellery, there are typically small pictures or designs created within. It's an enchanting process, traditionally handcrafted. Doves, flowers, and geometric shapes are very common to see in Damascene jewellery.
To proper clean Damascene jewellery, we suggest using a damp, but clean, cloth, rubbing the piece very gently. If preferred, you may add a droplet of mild dish detergent to a bowl of water and dip cloth in there before rubbing the piece. Lastly, make certain to dry the piece completely.
