Buckingham, first day cover with four ‘Olympics Handover’ commemorative stamps issue 22nd August, 2008.

The cover has the signature of Lynn Davies, British Olympic gold medallist of 1964 in the Long Jump.

The cover illustration is of an official 1908 games postcard of the programme for the event.

This cover has the genuine hand signed signature of Lynn Davies.

A small label on the reverse of the cover certifies:- British Olympic Gold Medallist Lynn Davies CBE will ‘.sign no more than 350 Buckingham, Olympic covers marking the handover of the Olympic Flag from China to London, featuring 4 stamps from the miniature sheet and official FDI dated 22/08/08.

Lynn Davies CBE (born in 1942) is a Welsh former track and field athlete who specialised in the long jump. He was the 1964 Olympic champion in the event. He was born in Nantymoel near Bridgend and was a member of the Cardiff amateur athletic club.

His nickname was Lynn the Leap.

He won a gold medal in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic games for the long jump. He was twice a winner of the BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year award, taking the honour in 1964 and 1966. After retiring from competitions in 1973, he became technical director of Canadian athletics until 1976 and later prepared the British team for the Moscow Olympics.
