Erasmo Carlos, born Erasmo Esteves on June 5, 1941, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is one of the most influential and enduring figures in Brazilian rock and MPB (Música Popular Brasileira). He began his musical journey in the late 1950s, forming the vocal group The Sputniks alongside Roberto Carlos, who would become his lifelong friend and collaborator. Together, they spearheaded the Jovem Guarda (Young Guard) movement in the 1960s, which was Brazil's answer to the global rock and roll phenomenon.

Erasmo's solo career took off with hits like "Festa de Arromba" and "Vem Quente Que Eu Estou Fervendo." His collaboration with Roberto Carlos produced numerous classic songs, with Erasmo often contributing as a lyricist. Their partnership is considered one of the most successful in Brazilian music history, creating hits such as "Detalhes," "Amigo," and "Sentado à Beira do Caminho."

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Erasmo continued to evolve musically, exploring different genres including soul, funk, and samba rock. Albums like "Carlos, Erasmo" (1971) and "Sonhos e Memórias" (1972) are considered landmarks in Brazilian rock music. His ability to adapt and innovate kept his music relevant across decades, earning him the nickname "Tremendão" (The Tremendous One).

Erasmo's contributions to Brazilian music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors.
