Up for auction is this great and very rare pair of miniature Japanese porcelain masks made as an advertising/promotional offering from The Sanko Steamship Company, LTD..  The pieces come in their original boxes.  The Sanko Steamship Company was founded in 1934 as a shipping organization, mostly in the Asian Pacific region, quite often between Japan and Korea.  Early in their existence, mostly before WWII, the company distributed promotional items such as this to advertise the business.  We believe that these two items were made during this pre WWII period.  The items we have here are two miniature porcelain masks, tied to a wood base.  One is of a Japanese man and the other a Japanese woman.  The wood base has "SANKO STEAMSHIP COMPANY, LTD." written on the bottoms.  The bases measure about 7 1/2 inches X 4 inches.  The boxes have Japanese Characters and gift type illustrations.  There is a tag from TAKASHIMAYA in one of the boxes.  This is from the famed Japanese retailer, in business since the 1830's, who distributed these promos.  The pieces themselves are in nice shape with just some very, very minor wear (this is extremely minor and only mentioned for complete accuracy!!).  The boxes have corner splits but are still attractive, viable and well intact.  The rare set is offered with NO RESERVE!!

We do not determine shipping costs!  Shipping cost is based on a 11X11X11 inch box at 2-3 pounds, determined by eBay using these dimensions and the buyer’s location.
