Here, we introduce a rare Seiko wristwatch that was once adopted by the former Imperial Japanese Navy for its dust-proof features.
This watch features a unique double-case structure, rarely seen in modern watches, designed with dust protection in mind. While it may appear to be an ordinary wristwatch from the outside, it actually houses a pocket watch inside, resembling a "side-winder open-face pocket watch." It is a must-see for those encountering such a design for the first time.
When you open the case back with a case knife, a securely housed pocket watch appears. You can retrieve the watch from this concealed compartment. The watch is tightly sealed like a typical pocket watch, giving it the sensation of a miniature pocket watch.
Because the pocket watch is enclosed within the case, this watch excels in dust-proofing. The watch itself features a glass crystal, and there is an additional glass crystal at the top of the case, providing double-layered protection.
The metal dial has luminous indices and cathedral-style hands, emphasizing its military-inspired design. The hands shine with the characteristic blue of blued steel.
The case back is inscribed with "PATENT PENDING Dust-proof STAINLESS STEEL BACK 658275 9047."
By operating the crown, you can set the hands and wind the mainspring. Please check the video to see the movement of the hands after winding the mainspring.
The watch comes with a brown cordovan leather strap, but there are some cracks due to aging.
