Balda Baldix folding camera with Baltar 75mm f/2.9 lens, very good condition, but shows some paint wear on the edges of the body. Film tested and the exposures look great, no light leaks! Shutter speeds appear accurate. Made in West Germany.
Camera body
The front cover opens and closes ok, latch keeps it closed tightly. Viewfinder a bit hazy. Film transport is functioning ok, and the frame counter is working. Some frames on the test film roll got pretty close together near the start, but seemed to even out to normal by half-way through the roll. Bellows in good shape, no light leaks. Camera body leather mostly in good condition, the bottom panels have been replaced. Interior of the film compartment is clean, and includes a vintage metal 120 spool.
Lens
The lens shows some front element coating damage from cleaning, which is pretty typical for lenses this old. No deep scratches, fungus or haze in the lens, and actually produces some quite sharp images. Rear element looks good. Aperture blades show some oil residue but the opening/closing action is smooth and the aperture control tab turns easily. Shutter blades look quite clean, other than some residue on the back, but the shutter is quick and snappy. All shutter speeds appear to be accurate, and the long speeds run smoothly. Focus is smooth, perhaps a bit dry. Self-timer is a bit slow, and is not always smooth running, but it works. Flash sync port is working.
