This is a Stanley No 4 corrugated bottom hand plane. I believe it is from the post-war era, probably about 1948. The tote and front knob are hardwood painted black. The adjusting knob has diagonal knurling, and the lateral lever has the name Stanley printed so that it reads from the side rather than vertically. That seems to be a few characteristics that would identify it as a type 18, (1946-47), but also a few from type 19, (1948-61), so it seems to be transitional, (I'm going to call it 1948). It is missing quite a bit of black paint, and it has had some rust. It is still a good useable plane.
