INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Congratulations on purchasing a Quarter Master hydraulic street release bearing. Your hydraulic release bearing is designed to operate with master cylinders from 5/8" to 15/16" piston size and will work with most types of street and racing clutches on the market today.

In the hardware kit supplied with your hydraulic release bearing you will find two anti-spin studs. One has a 5/16-18 thread and the other has a 3/8-16 thread. Select the correct stud for your transmission and install it in place of one of the four bolts that holds the bearing retainer snout to the front of the transmission. The stud should replace the bolt that was in the 7 o'clock position as you look at the front of the transmission. Place your hydraulic release bearing over the transmission snout and measure from the face of the bearing to the transmission face. Record this figure on the on the bottom of this page in the space labeled "T.O.B. HEIGHT".

Assemble the clutch and flywheel per the manufacturers instructions and bolt the bellhousing to the engine. Place a straight edge against the face of the bellhousing as a guide, then measure the distance from the clutch fingers to the face of the bellhousing. Record this figure on the bottom of this page in the space labeled "SETUP HEIGHT". It is necessary to check this set-up height because all crank/flywheel/clutch/bellhousing combinations vary in height.

Go to the bottom of this page and subtract the “T.O.B. HEIGHT “ from the “SET-UP HEIGHT”. Write this number down in the space labeled “SHIM HEIGHT”. Refer to the “Shim Height Chart” to determine the correct number of shims needed for your installation. Place the correct number of shims over the bearing retainer snout and slide your hydraulic release bearing into place, being careful to insure that the drive lug engages the anti-spin stud.

Install the transmission on the bellhousing. At the same time, feed the stainless hydraulic lines through the trans register hole and out the side of the bellhousing where the fork would normally go. Connect the hydraulic line from your master cylinder to the lower line coming from your hydraulic release bearing. Bleed the system to assure a firm pedal. We recommend you also install a positive stop on the clutch pedal to prevent over traveling the clutch. Over traveling will damage the hydraulic release bearing and clutch fingers.

After you have completed your installation, check your working clearance by looking at your release bearing to insure the piston sticks out 3/16" to 1/4" when it is at rest. Also inspect to make sure that the hydraulic release bearing is positively located by the anti-spin stud and will not rotate.

Check your working clearance whenever you inspect your clutch and adjust as necessary. With this simple maintenance your QUARTER MASTER hydraulic street release bearing will last for many years.
