WILLIAM JAMES URQUHART

Circa 1860-1905

'A SEATED LADY IN EASTERN COSTUME'

A very talented portraitist, cartoonist and illustrator and friend of Phil May. They used the same model. He painted Yvette Guilbert and Derwent Wood amongst many celebrities of the time.

He was born in Leicester circa 1860 and for many years drew for the Leicester Guardian and the Wyvern.

He moved to London in 1899 and worked for Punch and other periodicals. He exhibited five works at the R.A.

Sadly, ill health forced him to move to Davos, Switzerland in an effort to overcome tuberculosis. He died there in 1905.

We were fortunate enough to secure a large folio of his mature portrait and figure studies dating from circa 1900 at a major London auction and are offering them singly.

They are all in fine condition. A few are initialled. All are guaranteed by him.

This is a very fine portrait of a lady in Eastern costume.

 It is unmounted.

  Size of picture is 13" x 8''  (32cm x 20cm)
