This the 1st Armored Division Patch.[Known as the "OLD IRONSIDES"] [Subdued]

Provisionally established in February 1932 under the command of Col.D.Van Voorhis as the Armored Car Platoon..at Fort Knox..In July 1940 the 7th Cavalry Brigade was expanded, reorganised & redesignated as the 1st Armored Division..During WW2 the Divisions first encounter with the enemy was at the invasion of Northwest Africa,Operation Torch.They Fought their way through many battles of the African Campaign until the German surrender in May 1943..the Division was then sent to Naples, Italy. Part of the Anzio invasion force the division fought its way through the Italian Campaign, liberating Rome. In June 1945 the Division was moved to Germany as part of the Occupation Force. Post war the Division saw action in Korea, Vietnam & Desert Storm,in 1995 the division was in Bosnia,1999 in Kosovo, again in the Gulf 2003 in the Invasion of Iraq..many in the division are to this day serving in Iraq..
