Hard to find U.S. Army ROTC Superior Cadet Medal, NDCC (National Defense Corps Cadet), set of two. The photo shows the front and reverse of the medal, you will receive ONE full size medal and a service ribbon. A lapel pin is authorized, but not available.

AR 145-7 dated May 31, 1960 provided that the Department of the Army would award annually a Superior Cadet Ribbon, with certificate and lapel device, to the one outstanding student in each academic year (class) in each institution within the Junior Division of the ROTC program. In 1962 this award was amended to include a medal. The bronze medal is an open book representing continued learning and academic scholarship, on which is superimposed a classic lamp signifying knowledge, both military and academic, and behind the lamp is a vertical sword, point up, which alludes to leadership. Current Criteria: a. The recipient must be a regularly enrolled JROTC cadet. b. The cadet must be in the top 10 percent in JROTC and top 50 percent in class academic standing. c. Selection is based on demonstrated officer potential.

The National Defense Cadet Corps (NDCC) program is virtually identical to JROTC except it is fully funded by schools that choose to pursue a JROTC unit without financial assistance from the Army. The school incurs all costs to include instructor salaries, uniforms, and daily operational expenses. Currently, there are 25 NDCC units across the United States.
