Sorpe Dam 617 Cover Signed N Ross 617 Sqn Pilot

11 Nov 2001 Scampton Guy Gibson and the Dambusters Scamton Lincoln Postmark. Sorpe Dam. Cover depicts Flt LT Joe Mc Carthy attacking the Sorpe dam in Lancaster AJ.T 17 May 1943 with 617 Dambuster Badge. McCarthy was the Commander in Formation 2 of the Dams raid under the Wing Commander Guy Gibson. He was the only member of the five plane formation to reach the Sorpe dam and at the third attempt his aircraft ‘T for Tom’ almost hit the water, he then drew a perfect bead and the bomb exploded against the dam wall. McCarthy was born in the USA 

Personally Signed  by F/O Nicull Ramsay Ross DSO DFC AE pilot Served with 40,103 and 617 Squadron. The Saumur Tunnel was his 70th Sortie in WW11 Theatres of Operations, Germany, Occupied Europe and Italy.Member of 617 Squadron Association Flew under Wg Cdr L Cheshire VC.
