My Diary Experiences of World War 1, by Erbest (Barney) Stapleton

Published by the Newport Pagnell Historical Society in 2007, 28 pages. A5 size booklet (N4710PE)

From the inside front cover: What you are about to read is the diary of the day to day experiences of two years in the life of a Newport Pagnell man during the First World War. The man was Ernest Stapleton, and the original diary was kept in office shorthand, and translated many years later by his secretary...

In this booklet the author records arriving in Dover in March 1918 in preperation for shipping to France, arriving in Le Havre, and being assigned to the Royal Inniskillin Fusiliers. Later entries record spending time at 'Dirty Bucket Camp', at the frontline as a section leader in an isolated post at Poelcappel, what the trenches were like, fighting along the canal bank at Ypres,  and more!

The booklet includes three black and white photographs on the last inside page, each showing Barney and his comrades during the war.

Condition of the booklet is generally very good. The covers have one or two very minor scuffs, but the staple spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
