DEREK FOWLER ARCA

(1919-1990)

FIGURE DRAWINGS

MOSTLY 1930/40

Derek Fowler attended Highgate School, and then the Westminster School of Art where he excelled at figure drawing,

He was called up in World War II and served as a captain in India and Burma in the Camouflage and Intelligence Unit.

After the war he built up a flourishing portrait studio and also taught at the Royal College of Art.

He drew many famous people including Clement Attlee and Selwyn Lloyd.

He exhibited widely including at the New Burlington Galleries, The RA., The RSA, The Royal Portrait Gallery and others.    The Imperial War Museum holds many of his drawings.

We purchased a folio of his drawings and are offering these separately.   All are figure drawings except for a print of a Nigerian Scene which he produced for the London Fumigation Company.

One of the drawings is signed and dated.    All are guaranteed to be by him and most date from the late 1930s.

It is interesting to observe that a Fine Art company is offering not dissimilar works for $875 each!  Look up Derek Fowler on Google.

The condition of the whole is very good.    There is slight ageing, spotting and light creasing on some which will be described individually.

All are unmounted largely because of their size and to enable easier posting.

This good pencil study of a nude climbing a ladder is on white paper and dates from circa 1940.

It is in fine condition, with very slight wrinkles on the corners.

Size 16" x 9"  (40cm x 23cm)
