Extremely Rare 18th Century or Earlier Bronze Byzantine Greek Orthodox Russian Icon ! The piece is the center section of a bronze Tryptich (3 paneled) icon, thus the most important section since it depicts the lord Jesus Christ and his beloved mother Mary! Approximately 5.5 cm (2  2/16 inches) wide, and approximately 8 cm (3  2/16 inches) in height.  These bronze icons were very popular in the Byzantine empire, and when Byzantine with its capital Constantine (Constantinople) fell, many of the art pieces and styles moved to Russia where for centuries later the art remained popular and continued. I have seen so many copies that finding an original such as this is extremely rare! The piece bears evidence of having been through very harsh times thus missing the side two bronze panels as well as dents and other damages, how-ever it still maintains beautiful details as seen in the provided images! Please feel free to check out my other historical Christian Art Collection!
