  “ I began to do graffiti,

 very simple lettering, in  

     the early ’70s.”

– The idea behind the image is what I’ve been trying to do for the past 20 years, to merge the energy of graffiti with the world around me. The lettering moving lyrically, the imagery, the curves, everything that I think of as New York City.

“I portray women as warriors and guardians.”

– I wanted to make a piece that was full of energy, color, animals and a strong woman centerpiece. I was recalling psychedelic poster design from the ’70s and this piece was the result. I portray women as warriors and guardians, surrounded by spirit animals, in surreal vibrant environments.

EKO NUGROHO

“Salty Tolerance.”

– I’ve witnessed and read about violence and conflicts at home and in many countries across the globe. I think that human beings no longer know or want to know what it is to be tolerant. The figure in my poster is wearing a T-shirt with the text “Salty Tolerance”. The sentence is a little bit funny and absurd. I hope it is strange enough to stay in people’s minds and remind them to be tolerant in any situation.
