Double bill of action blockbusters with square-jawed heroes saving hapless civilians. In 'Daylight' (1996) It's rush hour in Manhattan and commuters are making slow progress through the Hudson tunnel. When a gang of crooks crash their car into a lorry carrying toxic waste, the resulting explosion seals off both ends of the tunnel, and a motley group of passengers find themselves stranded. Threatened by toxic fumes, fire and the imminent collapse of the tunnel, their only hope is former Emergency Medical Services Chief Kit Latura (Sylvester Stallone), who risks his life to get the disparate, squabbling group to safety. In Backdraft (1990) a childhood incident has left brothers Stephen and Brian McCaffret (Kurt Russell and William Baldwin) mentally scarred, but that doesn't stop them following in their father's footsteps by becoming firefighters. Brian, the more wary of the two, teams up with dogged arson investigator Donald Rimgale (Robert De Niro) after a series of blazes, and finds himself at loggerheads with the more gung-ho Stephen when he is led to suspect someone in his former unit.
