HISTORICAL MEMORIALS OF CANTERBURY by Arthur Penrhyn Stanley.  New York: Anson D.F. Randolph & Co. 1888.  Hardcover, 358 pages plus Index. Number 223 of a "Large Paper" edition of 600 copies.  There is was appears to be a publisher's signature on the colophon page.

Good condition.  There are old water stains on the spine, part of the back cover, and the top edge of the front cover. Dust-soiling, rubbing and some foxing to the boards.  Bumping, chipping and fraying to the head, tail, corners and board edges.  Fraying and tearing along the joint of the spine on the bottom part of the front board, and a much smaller joint-tear at the head of the rear board.  There's a closed tear along the spine and a large chip to the paper label on the spine.  Dust-soiling and yellowish age-toning to the text block edges (the fore-edge is rough cut).  There's a previous owner's inscription on the front endpaper.  There are some old, light water stains at the top edge of several of the early pages.  There is age-toning and sporadic dust-soiling to the pages.  There are some noticeable flecks of dust-soiling and tiny indentations on a few of the early pages.  Most of the pages are uncut (unopened), meaning they are fully or partially connected to the next page along either the top or fore-edge. A few pencil notations on the back inside cover have been erased, but are still faintly visible.  There is waviness to the pages, due to either humidity or the small areas of old water staining.  The overall binding is holding-up, but it's delicate in places where there is a tiny amount of separation between a few pages (nothing is yet detached). Illustrated in black and white.
