The Waterloo - Southampton Line, by R.W. Kidner

Booklet published by The Oakwood Press in 1983, 62 pages. A5 size booklet (N6185)

From the introduction: The Southampton line was the London & South Western Railway's first and perhaps most important line. Because of its many junctions, some with other railways, and the multifarious activities of the Port, it carried a wider mix of trains than most. It also offered in its middle section an excellent racing ground for engines. For these reasons it is felt that it deserves a study of its own, notwithstanding the many excellent histories of the L&SWR which have been published.

There were of course many ways of getting from Waterloo to Southampton without going all the way down the main line; these included the route via Aldershot, Alton and Winchester Junction, and nine of them were recognised by head-codes in the working books. However this survey is mainly confined to the straight route, with side-glances at the junctions whereby other routes were possible.

The condition of the booklet is generally very good. The cover has some minor scuffs and blemishes, but the staple spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. There is an old price printed on the front cover.

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
