Crank Cap Preload Removal Tensioning & Installation Tool Hollowtech II
Used to remove, install & pre-load crank arm adjustment caps.
Typically on Hollowtech II systems
Unit engages the 8 internal splines of the crank arm adjustment cap.
Serated edge grip offers the ability to use by hand and the addition of a 6 mm hex key recess allows an Allen Key to be used for ease - unlike poorer functioning alternatives.
Fits both shallow caps and has the 10mm deeper spline set for both types of Caps illustrated unlike poorer functioning alternatives!

TECH INSIGHT:
The tension cap in your crank arm, is for preload only - i.e. moving your crank arm gently to the end of the axle spline, against any wavy/.spring washer, and bb cup - ready to tighten the crank arm allen key bolts, to fasten your crank arm in place - it doesn't perform any other service.
So in reverse, should you need to remove it, you need to undo your crank arm AK bolts, lift the tang (inbetween the split, with AK bolts either side) on the crank arm, then loosen the plastic cap with the tool - If it was greased and/or originally used correctly as a preload cap then it should simply untighten very easily.
