These small watercolours in watercolour on ricepaper date from the mid 19thc.
They are mounted on white acid free paper and then on acid free board.
They are frail and no attempt should be made to remove them from their mounts.
Generally the condition is sound, but some have been cut to shape because of flaws in the paper. A few have minor repairs.
This example is of a prisoner seated on a discipline chair.
