The Cricket's Friends by Cousin Virginia or Virginia Wales Johnson. This is not a 1st but a copy infringment from the 1st mail order department store , The Butler Brothers. Still rare of a very rare book. Given to Schoolchildren for awards in the 1880s. This book has a hand penciled character on 3rd page opposite title page. Very Victorian.
219 Pages. Butler Bros Publishing . Dates says 1868 but most likely 1878
Not entirely sure though I know Mark Twain sued Butler Bros in 1878 for patent infringment.

Condition: Bumps to upper and lower spine. Some strange dot of paint lower right..may come off. Spine is fine.  Binding is intact and tight. 2 pages near back are loose but binding is tight. Vibrant deep red..... overall very good.
