A little 'STATEMENT' from a well known Hifi company

"We believe that the best way to do the job is to intercept the musical signal as it leaves the pre-amplifier and use a powered [active] crossover (an electronic filtering network) to separate the highs from the mids and the lows. This, naturally, means that we need to use more power amplifiers: one for each band of frequencies. And more loudspeaker cables, of course: one from each amplifier to its dedicated loudspeaker driver connection. 

This is, of course, more expensive than any passive system arrangement but we are more than absolutely certain - as are many satisfied customers - that the results easily justify the additional expenditure. Active systems typically sound more precise, clear and controlled than passive systems. The result is music that sounds more like music and less like a hi-fi system. In part this is because active systems inherently produce less distortion than passive systems.

This superior mode of use of course necessitates the use and/or refurbishment of the Linn and Naim active cross overs for the Isobarik speakers. Unless you can afford a New Naim 362 that is ! With it's associated supere cap of course :-) - Use a Hicap if you like.

The Naim Naxo and Snaxo Crossovers are relatively easy to source, and they simple and easy to service.
The Linn Active is a little more elusive, and they are not likely to have been serviced in a long time if at all!
They often hiss  on start up or  continually, and this is a sure diagnostic sign they are due for a full recap.

Which is the best active cross over for Isobariks Linn or Naim ? - I don't know !
I honestly use BOTH - when I can ! Each has different strengths.
And it could be put down to which 'house sound' you prefer.


For the refurbishment of the Linn active cross over, the very highest quality audio grade high temperature rated capacitors from Rubycon, Nichicon, Kemet, and Panasonic are used.
As the Linn Crossover runs in full 'Class A' mode it runs hot. So a high quality high temperature rated cap is essential.
These Crossovers are complex and there are nearly 90 caps alone to replace.
