This note, dated October 20, 1858, is unlisted in the Haxby reference, as it was not issued by a bank, but by the Treasurer of Lyons City, Iowa. The notes were printed by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New York, with the firm's name printed at the lower right of the note. The Rawdon firm was merged into the American Bank Note Company around the time that this note was issued (along with many other banknote printing companies). In fact, the American Bank Note Company logo appears on the note (to the right of the central vignette), The note also includes an ornate red “ONE” overprint, one of many innovations that had appeared around this time from some of the larger banknote printing companies that collectively became the American Bank Note Company (the Rawdon, Wright firm being one of the largest).  Generally speaking, obsolete notes from Iowa are fairly scarce, as the state had few banks that issued notes. Accordingly, these somewhat scarce notes, signed by the Lyons City Mayor and the Treasurer, are among the only affordable notes from Iowa that are available to most collectors.  Even better, the note is crisp and uncirculated.
