Georges Lepape was one of the most vital and imaginative artist of the age. A friend of Georges Braque, Marie Laurencin and Francis Picabia, he emerged as a major force on the Paris scene when he became the graphic designer for Paul Poiret, the legendary couturier who revolutionized fashion in our century. Poiret commissioned Lepape to create his first fashion plates, published in a rare brochure that is reproduced here in its entirety. Lepape's graphics for the theatre, reminiscent of Erté and Benito, were a perfect vehicle to convey the excitement of the Ballets Russes whose programmes he designed. In the magazine field, he first worked for Lucien Vogel's Gazette du Bon Ton, and was then discovered by Condé Nast, for whom he executed dozens of covers for French, English and American Vogue, for Vanity Fair and for House & Garden / Georges Lepape è stato uno degli artisti più vitali e fantasiosi della sua epoca.
