Today we are pleased to offer this beautiful antique Martin Luther folio Bible!
This antique tome is over 188 years old!
A great find from a local estate! This scarce antique German-language Holy Bible is in GOOD condition for its age! Beautifully preserved for being close to 200 years old! Published in Philadelphia around 1829; Bible is undated but these editions are typically c1820.
Exterior presents nicely overall! An impressive looking antique tome! Original leather boards show typical wear from age, including rubbing and light soiling, wear around the edges and bumping to the corners. Red morocco spine label shows some wear but boasts bright gilt lettering that makes this volume a FINE addition to any shelf! Also features one of the original leather straps, however the second is damaged. Marbled page edges show some soiling and fading from age but look great overall! Internally, this book is likewise very well preserved! Both boards are firmly attached! Boasts a strong, tight binding with almost all page groupings secure! The front fly pages and frontispiece illustration are loosely attached to the binding, and one page grouping starting at page 186 is likely loosely attached, but otherwise this volume is sound! Just some light evidence of cracking at the title page, but otherwise sound! This volume is VERY sturdy for its size and age! There is also some scribbling in ink on the pastedown endpaper and front free fly page but otherwise there are no bookplates or library markings to note!
The text block itself is in GOOD condition throughout! Very well preserved! The frontispiece illustration and title page shows some wear, as does the loose page grouping starting at page 186, however the remainder of this volume is quite well preserved. There is some toning to the pages typical of age, as well as moderate foxing and light scattered soiling throughout, however this text block remains exceptionally clean overall and perfectly readable! I also noticed some creased corners during my inspection as well as the odd spot of gentle edge tearing, but these blemishes in no way affects the text block. Really well preserved!
