Hasegawa SM-06 1/144 J1N1-R Gekko (Irving) Japanese Navy WW2 Recon Aircraft This auction’s for one open kit (This was purchased by mail order and did not have a plastic seal when received) whose parts, with the exception of one wing panel and one exhaust are still on their sprues and all of whose parts are present. This is Hasegawa's 1980s reboxing of Imai's original 1974 kit. External detail, especially given the original release date, is extremely good, with finely engraved panel lines and no sign of a rivet. There is no interior detail but the cockpit's not blocked so you can add as much as you want from plastic bits. There's also a multipart 4x6 truck such as might carry stores to the aircraft. Decals, in new condition, provide national markings and tail codes for two aircraft. The R variant of the Gekko was a late model reconnaissance aircraft that still had the humped back of the earlier versions (The S nightfighter dispensed with this). If you build in this scale, this is an interesting kit that will build into a convincing (if tiny) model. The box is in new condition and this kit's lived its entire life in a smokefree house.
